You are now a first-year once again (By the way, that’s the politically correct word for freshman. And you don’t live in dorms, you live in “Residence Halls”). The great thing about college is that everyone is on the same level; there aren’t the class status ranks of high school. No one is really entitled to anything. So just humble yourself.
2. Don’t wear your high school gear, or letter jacket
Leave it at home. You’re past that. Sorry, I only say this because it’s the truth, but no one really cares anymore if you were the captain of your sport, were on the debate team, or lettered in academics. Lots of people in college had high school accomplishments. Go to the book store and buy yourself a nice college t-shirt.
3. Watch some college classics: “Animal House,” “Accepted,” “Legally Blonde,” and others…
They’re really not the most authentic portrayal of college life, but they’re funny. Here:
Do NOT do this. Weekends are when people have fun, and most importantly make friends. If you go home every weekend, you’ll miss out on friendships and stories and the crazy stuff that makes the college experience. It’s going to be awful on Monday when you hear everyone talking about their weekend, and you weren’t part of any of it. If you’re in a long distance relationship or miss your parents, call them. By staying at college, soon you’ll establish a support base that is as good as your parents.
5. Watch what you EAT! …um…and drink
Now you have a dessert bar at your disposal. Stay sane. Chose carefully. Easier said than done, I know. If you’re going to drink everything you want, then you should be going to the gym often, but go to the gym regardless. Here’s some good info:
