The 2011-2012 Dormy Awards are in full swing. Tuesday we released the list of the top 15 best dorms in the country. Today we have everyone’s favorite list, the 15 biggest party dorms in America. Jump below the fold to see the results from over 9000 votes.


1. Bobb-McColluch at Northwestern University (4.8)
Bobb-McColluch at Northwestern University houses 496 students in doubles and triples and is located near the Sargent dining hall. Parties are not hard to find in Bobb- McColluch Hall, nor are they hard to find nearby since the hall is located near many of the frat houses. As one student said the hall is “ conveniently placed in the Frat Quads–so yes it is the party dorm of Northwestern. Filled with the most attractive freshmen and sophomores.”

2. McNutt at Indiana University-Bloomington (4.7)
McNutt at Inidian University-Bloomington is a “residence center” made up of 6 five-story dorm buildings which are all air conditioned and a new dining facility has just been added to the center building of McNutt. With six buildings housing so many college students  its easy to imagine why McNutt, “The Nut House” is one of the most social dorms on campus and why it has made to the top of this list.

3. Thurston Hall at George Washington University (4.6)
Thurston Hall at George Washington University houses only freshman students in doubles to six-person suites, each with their own bathroom. Bittersweet reviews do not rave about the dorm’s cleanliness but praise the party scene. While students may want to study in the library, Thurston Hall’s social scene is, as one resident said, “ the quintessential freshman experience at GW. Partying 24/7.”

4. Seton Hall at DePaul University (4.6)
Seton Hall at DePaul University provides many students with a great first year dorm experience in loft-style rooms equipped with walk in closets. It’s reputation as a party dorm matches one student’s remark that Seton Hall is the “hottest on campus.”

5. Sullivan Hall at Villanova University (4.4)
Sullivan Hall at Villanova University is a predominately sophomore dorm with recent renovations and AC coming to the hall this year, and has an ideal location that creates part of the campus’s quad. It seems this dorm deserves to be on this list with one resident’s comment that it is “party central” Thursday to Saturday.

6. Ryan Hall at Catholic University of America (4.3)
Ryan Hall at Catholic University of America is definitely not known for its cleanliness nor its quietness evident by one students statement that it houses “ freshman party hounds.” While it may get wild on the weekends most students enjoy it and as one student said  it was an “overall great first dorm experience.”

7. Christiana Towers at University of Delaware (4.3)
Christiana Towers at University of Delaware provide space with a kitchen and common area and one student called the towers “training apartments.” It seems these resident are all-week partiers and one student said the towers are “very noisy during all nights.” Not quite the study dorm if that’s what you’re looking for!

8. Ivory Tower at George Washington University (4.3)
Ivory Tower at George Washington University has new rooms with two doubles, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and a living room. The quality of the party scene seems to match up to the quality of the dorm itself. One student said “Always something going on on the weekends. Plan to study somewhere else though!”

9. Flather Hall at Catholic University of America (4.3)
Flather Hall at Catholic University of America is not considered one of the nicest looking dorms, but the students certainly have a good time  to make up for it. Some students have said “Such a party dorm” and “Flather is where the party is at it is the place to be at all times.”

10. New South at Georgetown University (4.3)
New South (or Zoo South) at Georgetown University is thought to be the best freshman dorm, although not so clean (but what can we expect for a party dorm?)  As one student points out New South is “Your typical long hallway, party dorm. Not so clean.”

11. Durfee Hall at Yale University (4.2)
Durfee Hall at Yale University is thought to be the best dorm for freshman students with pretty big rooms and a good location. It seems though that the resident who live there are what make the dorm something to talk about as one student said  “the kids are great, we’re a huge family”

12. Hanszen College at Rice University (4.2)
While Hanzen College is not the nicest dorm at Rice University students seem to think that the great social environment can make up for that downfall. One student would agree saying “ Best people, maybe not the best rooms…!” and another “The people at Hanszen…make our dorm the best and most cohesive place to live.”  The people must also make it quite the party hot spot.

13. University Commons at Georgia State University (4.2)
University Commons at Georgia State University is a nice dorm giving each student their own bedroom and shared kitchen. One student can remark on the party scene “I enjoyed living in the dorms. Except for the noise.”

14. Sheehan Hall at Villanova University (4.1)
Sheehan Hall at Villanova University is considered such a great sophomore dorm because it is located on the quad. Quite fitting that it made the party list as one resident said “Sheehan and the quad is the place to be on the weekends” and  another said “Fun place to be except when trying to do work.”

15. Newman Towers at Loyola College in Maryland (4.1)
Newman Towers at Loyola College in Maryland is one of the best sophomore dorms at Loyola. In reference to the part scene one student claims the “ The party scene is mainly at the bars so the dorms hardly ever get trashed except for post and pregaming.”  This seems to be enough to make it one of the biggest party dorms!
